  • Ihkapaskwa Collective

    Ihkapaskwa Collective has a team of Indigenous midwives and nurse practitioners who are able to support with pregnancy options and abortion access. Their aunties offer emotional and cultural support as well as traditional medicines. Additionally, they offer resource support through direct referrals to culturally safe resources. While it’s difficult to access abortion in this region, the Ihkapaskwa Collective can help by offering full wrap around support.

    Kisêwâtisiwin Full-Spectrum Reproductive Care

    Piyêsiw offers free, non-judgmental support for individuals accessing abortion care within the Edmonton area. Due to clinic policies, in-person support during appointments may not be permitted. They can provide transportation to and from your appointment, help coordinate a safe ride home, and offer emotional support before and after your visit. Their role is to ensure you feel supported, respected, and not alone during this experience.

  • Indigenous clients are eligible for grants to cover doula services during their abortion ($1,200 per pregnancy regardless of outcome) through the Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program (DAFGP). These grant funds could be used to pay doulas who:

    • belong to one of the organizations listed below as long as they are registered with DAFGP.

    • or, you can find doulas registered with DAFGP in your area by using this link. Make sure to view the profiles of your local doulas to see if they provide abortion support since this service is offered on a doula-by-doula basis.

    Abortion Support Collective (ASC)

    ASC is made up of dedicated abortion doulas and allied health professionals who are committed to supporting individuals throughout their reproductive journeys. They offer non-judgemental, flexible services aimed at filling the gaps during the abortion process. Their services include support during medication and procedural abortions, transportation accompaniment, help with navigating resources, post-abortion support, and a phone line for immediate support with processing or finding resources. While not an Indigenous doula collective, several Indigenous doulas are part of their team and can be requested during intake! ASC welcomes clients to share any identities that are important for their doula to hold.

    ekw’í7tl doula collective

    ekw’í7tl provides culturally relevant care to Indigenous families through the full-spectrum of pregnancy and reproductive-health related experiences, including birth, postpartum, pregnancy loss, family planning, menstruation, and abortion.

    Huckleberry Midwives

    Provides supportive care for clients experiencing a loss and/or termination and can help navigate care options during this time. They provide supportive care to clients accessing the Early Pregnancy Loss Clinic or CARE program at BC Women’s Hospital. They also offer individualized full-spectrum care for BIPOC families including supporting access to BIPOC doulas, Indigenous medicines, traditional foods, relationships with Elders and connection to other community supports.

    Nesting Doula Collective

    The Nesting Doula Collective offers doula support for all stages of your pregnancy and your reproductive journey including during pregnancy loss, abortion, or other reproductive health procedures. Doulas provide a full range of support services including gathering information to make decisions, helping you determine your desires, wishes, and preferences, offering physical and emotional support, debriefing and post-procedure care. They also support you with creating ritual and ceremony as well as connecting you with the support services you may need in community.

  • Aunties on the Road: Indigenous Full Spectrum Doula Collective

    Aunties on the Road provides full-spectrum doula support to Indigenous youth (12-30) living on traditional Algonquin and Mohawk territories in Eastern Ontario. Indigenous doulas centre traditional and spiritual practices and beliefs associated the full-spectrum of pregnancy experiences, including abortion, adoption, surrogacy, miscarriage and stillbirth, in providing emotional, physical and spiritual support to Indigenous youth.

    Call Auntie Clinic 

    The Call Auntie Clinic, grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, welcomes anyone who is looking for access to healthcare. The Call Auntie Clinic offers a variety of supports, including help with pregnancy options or answering questions if you are pregnant and not sure what to do and/or don’t want to be pregnant. They are located in Tkarōn:to (Toronto) governed by the Dish With One Spoon Treaty.

  • Northern Manitoba Abortion Support

    Northern Manitoba Abortion Support offers a compassionate and non-judgemental space for people having abortions in the Northern Health Region. Send us a message if you or someone you know has questions or needs an Abortion Aftercare Support Kit.

  • The Northern Birthwork Collective

    These doulas/ birthworkers offer a variety of free support services. They can escort you to your appointment, where they can provide emotional support or distraction. They can help with transportation after a surgical abortion by paying for a taxi home. Additionally, they offer non-judgemental telephone support if you would like to talk about your abortion.
