This resource offers guidelines for how service providers can integrate three Indigenous cultural practices into procedural abortion care:
Smudging (the burning of traditional medicines)
Bringing the pregnancy remains home
Involving a support person during clinic or hospital visits
This guidebook offers key considerations, step-by-step instructions, templates for consent forms, and strategies for effective communication. It’s intended for service providers working in both community- and hospital-based abortion clinics. This may include healthcare professionals, client navigators, and healthcare administrators but extends to anyone involved in procedural abortion care such as counsellors, social workers, and referring professionals.
